Pupils at St Anne’s School won all three trophies for the design challenge and more than 90 certificates at merit and honours level were handed out.

The presentation evening for the ICT Eisteddfod awards took place at Beau Sejour in Guernsey, but Alderney could not send any representatives.

Instead awards were handed out at a special assembly.

The challenge put to entrants was to design a poster for the UK butterfly Conservation Society.

A total of 43 Alderney children from ICT teacher Elaine Martel’s classes spanning years seven to 11 entered the competition – more than has ever entered before.

Nearly all of them won awards – a total of 98 certificates were awarded.

Thanh Shaw, aged 12, from year seven won the Level 1 (beginner level) trophy with a score of 95 per cent.

Holly Neill aged 12 from Year Nine won the intermediate trophy, with a score of 95 per cent. Abbie Chandler, aged 14 from Year 10, won overall, picking up the top award at Level 3, advanced level, with a score of 96 per cent.

'We had to use all of the text and use our own ideas for the design,' said Abbie. 'It was a surprise to win but I worked very hard for it.'

Mrs Martell said: 'I’m very proud of all of them; they did extremely well in the competition, which saw not only all the schools take part but also the College of Further Education. It gives a boost to their confidence and it’s something that can be used on their record of achievement and on the CVs.'
