Mr Alderney contest back after many years
GENDER equality is coming to Alderney, with this year’s Miss Alderney set to be joined by a Mr Alderney.
The male position will be returning this year after many years absent.
But islanders will have to wait until Alderney Week to find out which male will be chosen, as the competition will not take place until day of the Cavalcade.
But those aspiring to the Miss Alderney crown will not have to wait as long.
The winner will be chosen by an independent judge at a disco party at the Georgian House this Saturday evening.
She will take over from Courteney Benfield, who won in 2022.
Alderney Week team leader Wayne Chandler said that those wishing to take part simply had to turn up on the night.
‘Historically we’ve had between six and eight girls enter each year. Usually Miss Alderney is aged between 16 and 20,’ he said.
Mr Chandler added that contestants were encouraged to text in a short paragraph saying why they considered themselves suitable for the role.
Both a Little Miss and Master Alderney will be chosen earlier at a party on the Butes, which starts at 2pm.
Some of Miss Alderney’s responsibilities during Alderney Week include taking part in the cavalcade, handing out prizes to competition winners, and attending events.
Alderney Week is taking place between 7 and 12 August, with this year’s theme being Wonderland. It is a busy week of events, entertainment and competitions.
