In a letter to the hotel, Booking.com global director partner services Peter Verhoeven said it was no mean feat to achieve as high a review score – 9.3 out of 10 – as the hotel had.

‘The Booking.com Guest Review Awards are our way to recognise and reward your dedication to ensuring every stay is a great stay.’

It is the first time the hotel has received an award from Booking.com.

Hotel director and general manager Paul Armorgie said the hotel was delighted to receive the award.

‘One of the biggest challenges for a small hotel in an island like Sark is getting people to know who you are and what we do,’ he said.

‘An award like this is so valuable for letting people know what we do.

‘It is about consistency – to make sure day in and day out that we are providing the best levels of hospitality, food and drinks.’

The hotel, which was refurbished and re-opened in 2011, has previously won awards with review site TripAdvisor.

Aware that reputations could be won and lost on online review sites, Mr Armorgie said it was lovely to think guests had felt strongly enough to give such good reviews online.
