Sark Folk Festival is to return next year
SARK FOLK FESTIVAL will officially return to the island next year, organisers have confirmed.
The festival’s founder will also be stepping down as chairman, with new appointments in the committee ahead of the next event.
One of the main events in the island’s calendar, the festival has attracted tens of thousands of folk music fans and families for the weekend since it began in 2010.
This year the festival took a break to allow the field to fallow. In its place, an alternative event, Sark Summer Festival, with a more mainstream line-up, takes place this coming weekend, with tickets still available.
Next year’s Sark Folk Festival will commence on 5 July. The organisers have also announced some changes to roles on the festival organising committee.
‘Sark Folk Festival has been hugely successful since the first festival in 2010,’ a spokesman said.
‘It has been run, right from the start, by a very committed group of volunteers who have given a huge amount of time to make the not-for-profit festival happen.
‘Simon Harvey, founder of the festival, will be standing down as chairman. After his years of dedication, Simon has decided it is the right time to hand on to a successor, although he will still be involved and will remain as a committee member.
‘The committee would like to publicly thank Simon for the sheer volume of work and time he has put in over the past eight years.
‘As a reflection of the huge amount of work Simon put in, two new roles have been made to fill the gap he leaves behind.
‘Josh de Kooker will take on the role of chairman, taking overall responsibility for the planning of the festival through the year. Paul Le Huray will take on the role of festival director, responsible for the operation of the festival over the weekend. Josh and Paul have both been heavily involved in previous festivals and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to their new roles.’
The line-up for the folk festival is yet to be announced.
The Sark Summer Festival will feature local bands The Recks, Rentoclean and Tantale as well as UK country trio The Adelaides, among others, from tomorrow until Sunday.
