A 40p rise in bus fares generated less money than was predicted, it has been confirmed.

The increase has also been blamed for a 6% fall in the number of passengers.

Now Vale deputy Matt Fallaize, who led a campaign against the fare hike, is calling on Environment to take steps to halt further decline.

The department's figures show that the increase, as part of the Financial Transformation Programme, generated more than £336,000 between last August and last month.
