Prince Louis’ birth has been formally registered by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – with proud father William signing the certificate.

The newest member of the royal family was born just over a week ago and royal watchers were kept on tenterhooks before William and Kate announced his name on Friday.

Another milestone was passed when the duke sat down at Kensington Palace on Tuesday morning and signed the certificate registering his son’s birth, witnessed by Westminster City Council registrar Patricia Gordon.

William and Kate’s third child weighed 8lb 7oz when he was born at the private maternity unit of St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, in central London on April 23 at 11.01am.

The birth certificate lists the date and place of Louis’s birth, and also gives the family address as Kensington Palace.

The duke, who is taking a period off following the birth of his son, simply signs the document William.

Ms Gordon said: “It has been a great honour to register, and formally welcome the latest addition to the royal family, Prince Louis Arthur Charles.

“This follows a long history of Westminster City Council registering royal births, including Prince Louis’ siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte.”
