Robert Burns celebrated in one-day exhibition of poems
Two of the Bard’s manuscripts are going on display in Glasgow.
As Scots around the globe mark Burns Night with a traditional supper, fans of the Bard are being invited to view his original manuscripts in a one-day exhibition.
Holy Willie’s Prayer (1785) and The Ordination: A Scotch Poem (1786) will sit side-by-side for the first time in many years in a display at the National Library of Scotland at Kelvin Hall in Glasgow on Friday.
The exhibition, organised in partnership with the Mitchell Library, is free and will run from 11am to 3pm.
The works on display are said to contain some of Burns’ most provocative social commentary, both exploring the use and misuse of religious power in 18th-century Scotland.
Minister for Europe, Migration and International Development Ben Macpherson will attend the exhibition along with Councillor David McDonald, chairman of Glasgow Life.
