Man charged with murdering teenager in Sunderland
Leighton Barrass, 20, is due to appear at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
A 20-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of a teenager in Sunderland.
Connor Brown, 18, died in the early hours of Sunday after being found injured behind The Borough pub in the city centre at 1.28am.
Northumbria Police said the teenager suffered injuries consistent with a stabbing and he later died in hospital.
On Monday, a force spokesman said Leighton Barrass, of Hartside Square, Sunderland, has been charged with murder.
He is due to appear before magistrates in South Tyneside on Tuesday.
A 19-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder remains in police custody and is continuing to assist officers with their inquiries.
Detective Chief Inspector John Bent described the death of Mr Brown, from Sunderland, as a “tragic incident”.
He added: “We are committed to determining the circumstances behind Connor’s death and a thorough investigation is ongoing as we look to bring those responsible to justice.
“We are not treating this as a random attack and I would like to reassure the community that we will leave no stone unturned in finding out the truth behind Connor’s death.”
