Inside the Portland, Britain’s only private maternity hospital

The Duchess of York gave birth to the Duke of Sussex’s cousins at the hospital in Harley Street.

The birth certificate of Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor has revealed the Duchess of Sussex gave birth to her first child at the Portland Hospital in Westminster.

Britain’s only fully private maternity hospital, previous VIP patients include Victoria Beckham, Liz Hurley and Kate Winslet.

The Duchess of York gave birth to the Duke of Sussex’s cousins, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, at the hospital in Harley Street, central London, where a basic birth begins at £6,100.

Extra costs during birth include £995 for an epidural and £635 if an induction is required.

The hospital, frequented by Middle Eastern royalty, opened its door to cameras in 2016 for the BBC Two documentary Five Star Babies: Inside the Portland Hospital.

“We have celebrities and individuals of very high net worth and they are used to getting what they want,” former chief executive Janene Madden told the BBC.

“And if they want 10 additional rooms or 20 additional rooms we will provide it.

“As long as that woman or husband can pay for what they are requesting we will do our best to provide that.”

Five star baby services include waiter service, serving patients champagne and lobster, and an in-house nursery.
