Bastille ready to rock TRNSMT after ‘best gig we’ve ever done’ at Glastonbury
Ahead of their first appearance at Glasgow’s TRNSMT festival, drummer Chris Wood called the band’s Glastonbury set the ‘best gig we’ve ever done’.
Bastille are riding on a high after playing “the best gig we’ve ever done” at Glastonbury last month.
The band were speaking ahead of their first appearance at TRNSMT festival, with around 50,000 people in Glasgow Green on Saturday to see them and other acts including Catfish and the Bottlemen.
Drummer Chris Wood is also DJing an aftershow party at Glasgow’s The Garage and at midnight, July 14 will mark Bastille Day – as well as frontman Dan Smith’s birthday.
“Everyone’s just showed us so much love and it’s just like the vibe here is just amazing.”
Speaking about the Glastonbury set, he added: “You want to make as good an impression as possible and obviously playing the Pyramid Stage has been like a dream of most of ours for years and years now and we wanted to make the most of it.
“It went by like that as well – one of those things where you spend ages getting ready and then in a blink it’s done.”
He added: “It’ll be nice because there’s two or three tracks we’ve never played in Scotland before.
“It’s interesting when you do, slightly slower more chilled songs that no-one’s ever heard it’s a bit of a test.
“As an audience if you’re having a wonderful time at a festival and a band plays something you don’t know it can be downbeat… but we’ve always got the big old Pompeii to chuck out.”
During their tour earlier this year, the band visited Glasgow’s O2 Academy and had Lewis Capaldi as their support act.
The Scottish singer also performed Joy on stage with the band at Glastonbury amid an ongoing spat with Noel Gallagher after comments made by the former Oasis man.
“It was a kind of funny dynamic by the end of it because by the end we should have been opening for him.
“We just asked him if he wanted to come and have a mess around at Glastonbury and he was up for it because he’s a cool guy.
“I might start a beef with Noel Gallagher because I want some of that Lewis Capaldi fame.
“Or maybe I should go after Liam? Oh god no I don’t want to do that. Liam will beat me to death.”
