Liverpool chief executive visits injured fan in Naples hospital
The 26-year-old was assaulted ahead of the club’s Champions League match on Tuesday.
A Liverpool fan who was assaulted in Naples ahead of a Champions League match has been visited in hospital by the club’s chief executive.
Peter Moore said on Twitter he had been to see the fan, named as Steven Allen, who collapsed at the San Paolo Stadium following the attack on Tuesday evening.
Merseyside Police said two men, aged 26 and 46, sustained superficial cuts and grazes to the head when they were assaulted by a number of men who approached them on scooters at a bar in the Italian city at about 6pm local time.
The victims were treated at the scene and continued to the stadium, but at half-time the 26-year-old passed out and was taken to hospital.
A force spokesman said he has since been discharged.
Writing on Twitter, Mr Moore said: “I’m at the hospital with Steven right now. We will not leave him until we are comfortable that he’s fine, so can everyone stop worrying for now.
“Trying to get him seen by a doctor, but there’s a distinct lack of urgency here from the police and medical staff.”
In a later post, he added: “The hospital staff and the police have now helped Steven and been very cooperative.
“He’s been seen and will be monitored throughout the night. He asked me to thank everyone for their concern.”
