The will of the electorate has been ignored

Far be it from me, a Jock Crapaud, to comment on Guernsey ‘democracy’ but I shall.

From self-congratulations and back-slapping on increasing the turnout in a dodgy electoral system (where is the constituency link between elected and electors?) the elected politicians then completely ignore the people’s will.

One would have thought it reasonable that the poll topper, who said he would stand for chief minister, would be elected to that position but what did you get instead? A parliamentary coup, that’s what. Ignoring the people’s will, the knives were duly indecently sharpened and then plunged into the back of Mr St Pier.

I find this shocking but not in the least surprising considering the murky, internecine world of local Channel Island politics. Again the people are ignored by career politicos.

What have you done? I hope your electorate are happy, I certainly wouldn’t be.
