‘Heartbroken’ to leave due to cost of housing

THANK YOU for your news ‘Warning of a future Guernsey’ [Opinion, Thursday 15 September].

I just wanted say that it’s not like we don’t want to live here in Guernsey. In my case Guernsey housing is pushing me to leave the island or live in an open market A flat which costs at least £1,700 per month (one bedroom). If you’re looking in the market there are none available.

I’ve been living in Guernsey for more than 10 years. Unfortunately, I was living under my ex-boyfriend’s local licence and after a break-up (how it happens sometimes in life) I lost rights for a local licence. Now I’ve been told that I need to leave Guernsey after 10 years or go in an open market A flat.

Ten years I was paying tax money. I love this island from all my heart and I would like to stay but because of Guernsey housing I need to leave, which is not fair at all. For £1,700 per month I could rent a house. So how am I suppose to find a flat which is not even on the market and pay £1,700 with my manager salary.

My heart is broken as I need to leave Guernsey, my friends and a job that I love and there is no help from Housing.

After more then 10 years Guernsey Housing [Department] do not care and then everyone is surprised why people are leaving Guernsey.
