We need more action to clean up Town

AT A time when we are only days away from the Island Games festivities and heroic achievements, and Deputy Dudley-Owen, ESC, the Sports Commission and Amanda Hibbs and her outstanding team have worked so hard, we do need more action regarding the dirty state of Town.

Town constable Zoe Lihou has, on the front page of the Guernsey Press 30 June, outlined the graffiti, cigarette butts and vape stickers.

However a Town licensee a few days ago made some other even more challenging observations. I had attended a committee meeting and observed a busy lady washing with hoses the North Plantation area near the Thomas De La Rue public house.

She explained that the area and pavement was pretty filthy and the gardens overgrown with weeds due to lack of maintenance.

It didn’t seem a good selling point for Guernsey, especially being so near to the Guernsey Tourist Information Centre, the important Guernsey Biological Records Centre and hopefully the future flagship Victor Hugo Centre.

I do hope the agencies responsible can sort out the problems this week.
