May our divisions be healed this Christmas
Reflecting this Christmastide about life in general feels like a bit of a challenge.
We’ve got war overseas, where neither side shows any inclination to bend, where ceasefire and peace seem some way away.
Reflecting on the situation in Israel and Gaza, even here, we can see that, whether supporters or opponents, people are strong-minded and vociferous on the topic.
Closer to home we don’t have war, but we have clear divides still within government.
Whether members can be brought together by a new team at the top in 2024 we can but hope.
Whether that would lead to more effective and efficient government, we have no idea, just expectation.
The divides in Guernsey society may be better hidden, but are also there.
We have run plenty of stories in recent weeks demonstrating how some families will be dependent on charity in some form or another to help them through Christmas.
Christmas is a time for peace, for happiness, for families.
May we have cause to reflect positively on our lot this yuletide.
We wish all our readers and their families a joyful Christmas.
