Take care to avoid travel disruption

Evidence of recent years shows that rarely does Christmas pass without some trials and tribulations over travel.

And this festive season that has been a constant.

High winds, technical troubles and wave heights have all led to disruption to some extent or other.

So commonplace has this become, that those planning to go away for Christmas almost deserve some kind of award for courage.

It’s the kind of situation that can leave one desperately seeking a back-up plan, rather like the States has been doing for the past few weeks.

As weather takes its toll on sailing schedules, it doesn’t take long for supermarket shelves to start to show the pinch, and thereby demonstrate that our States, alongside that of Jersey, are taking a proper course just to make sure that things won’t fall over if the worst was to come to the worst.

However while the market is scoured for suitable vessels, the implications of what the governments could be looking at are almost too great for us to grasp.

No doubt attention has been paid to the operation of any vessels, but that will be a huge burden for the islands.

And all this while everyone hopes against hope that such a move will never be necessary.

May our transport links return to normal service very soon – and stay that way.
