Church is just out to make money
IN VIEW of yet another of their frequent power struggles and squabbles by the Church of England concerning who controls who and what, surely this is a brilliant opportunity for our States members to step in on behalf of the island's parishioners to fully regain control of our churches etc from the CofE, as we islanders having been cleverly misled for many years to believe they have been looking after our properties, whereas in actual fact what they have been doing is saving themselves a great deal of money.
Having personally conversed with some devout Church of England worshippers in East Sussex and informed them of how funding is at present done in Guernsey, their comment was clear and precise that the public in Sussex would not tolerate this treatment, so why is it overlooked and allowed to continue here?
How many Church of England clergy serving in Guernsey were actually born here? Very few, if indeed any and yet, in my opinion, some prance around our island as if they were an emperor surveying his empire.
How and why is the Church of England Dean of Guernsey been allowed so much power, and why has not his power been contested by our States members past and present? Could there be behind-closed-doors collusion going on?
Previously in my letters I have used the words dictatorial and arrogant as a description for some of both the Church of England clergy and their underlings, and after reading about what action/non-action the Church of England Dean of Jersey took when being informed of a possible sex misconduct complaint, I stand 100% by my descriptions. The Church of England is nothing less than a money-making religious business, with their clergy no different than any other working person out to make a reasonable living.
