Three generations of being bullied at school is enough
AS USUAL for us, one of our grandchildren came to sleep over at the weekend.
Most of the time they are happy to play computer games or watch telly and they even help out us oldies with shopping, sometimes.
We are always there if they want to talk and they can discuss any subject they need to. This child is very intelligent and bright and attends Les Beaucamps School.
We spent a lot of time talking about bullies. I thought things had improved but it would seem not. They told me they are abused almost daily, with no reporting system in place that won't result in more abuse.
This child's aunt attended the same school with the same issues – she is now in her mid-20s.
My wife and myself suffered bullies throughout our school lives, Vauvert, St Martin's and St Peter Port.
Please, please, whoever you are, if you are responsible for the wellbeing and safety of children in school, stamp it out. Throw out bullies. Let honest, hard-working children attend school free from fear.
Three generations is enough, isn't it?

Editor's footnote: Peter Le Cheminant, head teacher, Les Beaucamps High School, responds: 'Les Beaucamps High, in common with all the other secondary schools, has a robust anti-bullying policy and will always take immediate action to address any bullying issues. The school has only recently reviewed its bullying policy, particularly in relation to cyber bullying, and staff and students have been involved in the review of that policy, which highlights a strong statement from students on why bullying is unacceptable.
Our recent validation report noted that "care, guidance and support are well developed" and that "the school is proactive in combating and preventing bullying by communicating the need to treat others respectfully".
Students know that if they have a concern about the behaviour of another child towards them, they need to report this to any member of staff and a first point of contact is their form teacher or head of year.'
