Chalet tell you why I loved it?

I FIRST came to the beautiful island of Guernsey in 1964. I came with a girlfriend and we picked Le Chalet Hotel from the guidebook.

We absolutely loved the island and were enchanted with Le Chalet Hotel and Fermain Bay with its boat service to St Peter Port. We came again in 1965 and 1966 and then I came back with my husband in 1974. We still stayed at Le Chalet – he also caught the bug and we came every year until he died in 2001.

The hotel was owned by Andre Sendlhofer and managed by Heinz Wegerer and his wife, Gabby, and we looked forward to seeing them and their staff every year.

While staying there, we met lots of other couples who felt the same way as us. We had such wonderful times, full of fun and happiness. Le Chalet was a real holiday hotel and had a certain magic about it. Because of these happy times, I was able to return on my own each year until the hotel closed in January 2012, supposedly for refurbishment work. Sadly that has never happened.

What a loss this is for Guernsey and Fermain Bay. Fermain Bay really came to life again after the refurbishment of the toilets and cafe.

I know Le Chalet was also loved by the locals who used to come for bar meals, Sunday lunch etc., and also for Christmas.

We all have wonderful memories, which other people will never have, as I cannot see Mr Coates opening the hotel again after it being closed for so long.

fIt certainly is heartbreaking to see it like that.
