A day for 'power to the people'...

I HAVE just returned from the 'Enough is Enough' public meeting at North Beach and was heartened by the public support for that event.

The people organising this event did very well considering that there were some who dismissed the idea of a public protest and I saw many mature and intelligent people there.

Although our political views are poles apart, full credit is due to Deputy Burford for having the courage to face the public who were obviously opposed to her viewpoint and were at times fairly hostile by Guernsey standards. Both Zef Eisenberg and Deputy Kevin Stewart totally destroyed Environment's argument for a width and emissions tax and hopefully the States will throw it out and also support the Al Brouard amendment and throw out paid parking as well.

Many places that have paid parking are now reversing it as it kills off trade in those areas. Why can't we learn from the mistakes of others instead of making our own?
