No sense in Sunday trading laws
I KNOW the deputies elected to run the island will be thinking we are all moaners, but they must surely know some of the things we moan about can be sorted without that much effort. I mean some of the laws are absolutely stupid.
I took a walk around a well known centre on Sunday 26 July – you know, the one that used to be a garden centre but now is more of a mall (a precinct/shopping centre). The only thing is – whether one likes these kind of places or not – on a Sunday they are virtually a waste of time. Half the place is closed off with ribbons and ropes and not available for people to look around beyond – or buy from. People can consume alcohol, we can buy petrol, but we cannot buy a birthday card.
It was pouring down most of the day and because I had a voucher given to me to spend at this mall, I decided to take a walk around and perhaps purchase a book. I could not even get to the books, and even clothes were cordoned off. What on earth is wrong with the people who make the laws? Is it just that they have the power so they do this to prove authority – or are they really that stupid to believe buying a book, a card or some clothes on a Sunday will actually harm someone somewhere?
Isn't it sad that we have to live under these man-made antiquated laws. These law makers should take a good look at these silly laws and have a word with themselves about sorting it all out. There is very little in the way of entertainment on this island when the weather is fine, but when it is wet, it's a real gem of a place now. If they are allowed to open to the public on a Sunday, at least let the people be able to look and buy – otherwise what's the use?
