Eisteddfod is an event the people of Guernsey should be proud of
I HAD the great privilege of adjudicating the music section of the island's Eisteddfod a few weeks ago and have been reflecting on the exceptional quality and quantity of the performances I heard. The 10 days or so of musical celebration were highly enjoyable and made a deep impression – I was made very welcome and hope to return soon to visit with my family.
It was wonderful to hear such variety of music from such a broad range of talented individuals and groups. I write to pay tribute to the hard work put in by so many in enabling the excellence of this real festival of music-making.
All that happened would not have been possible without the fantastic support of families, teachers, schools, the Music Service and indeed the States, and not least the organisers. There was a great sense of a community working together and such performances seem to me to contribute hugely positively to what makes Guernsey such a special place. The Eisteddfod is something of which the people of Guernsey should be rightly proud – long may support of it continue.
