Things will only get better for the rich

WHAT a total waste of time we are all being subjected to having to listen to Gavin St Pier telling us how Guernsey will be made the best/happiest place in the world to live in 20 years' time. I listened to him saying in a television interview that if (and this is a big if for the poor and a lot of pensioners) Guernsey is a great place to live now, it will be even better in 20 years' time. Look, this island could be the best place in the world for people swimming in money at the present time, and made even better, but for the people struggling now it will be even harder as time goes on.

The poor have been punished to subsidise the rich more and more in Guernsey in recent times and there is no sign of this changing in any way in the foreseeable future.

It does not matter if a person lives in Guernsey or Timbuctoo, if they have no money worries it will be the best place in the world for them.

We could do a survey right now and if 100 millionaires in Guernsey were asked about the place the answer would be – it is a fantastic place to live.

If we asked the same amount of pensioners and people being robbed of a liveable wage what they think, the outcome would be a 100 per cent swing the other way.

Never mind all the razzmatazz about making the island the best place to live. Just make it liveable. We don`t want all your talk about 20 years down the road. We want it sorted now.

Let's face it, we have heard all this bunkum for years from our open and transparent government.

The faces at the top may change, but the rubbish and hidden agendas don't.

All this talk – talk – talk does not get it done.

Young people are leaving the island, and because foreign labourers can be exploited they are taking the locals' place.

The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

This will continue to happen and it would appear it is the policy wanted by the top people in our government.

Does our government want to close the black hole?

It would appear not, as they are prepared to take as much as they can from the pot while making every effort to tell us how they are working to help us.

Take a half wage cut when it comes to discussing your money Mr St Pier – or even better come down to the level of the needy in the island and freeze your money in the bank and live for a year on a state pension or a minimum wage.

I don't know about making this island a better place to live in, it would seem more to the point that for the people at the bottom of the ladder it is very quickly becoming the most depressing place in the world to live, and that is my honest opinion (like it or not).

I am not loading people with a lot of unnecessary clack to cheat them. I am not loading people with ifs and maybes.

I am pointing out the truth from the bottom edge of the triangle which is (as I have said before) upside-down.
