Time for some new coaching talent at Guernsey FC?
I AM an avid sports fan and I follow quite a few sports, but the sport I follow the most is football. I avidly follow a Premier League team and try to go to most of their home games, which logically and geographically, can be challenging. I am that much a fan of this team that it was a factor when deciding what English university I attended. So, it probably comes as no surprise that I am mildly interested in how the local Guernsey FC team is doing. At present, the word terrible comes to mind. Guernsey FC results for the last 15 games is as follows: DWWLLLLDLWWLWLL.
Now because of more pressing concerns regarding Guernsey and the future, like the education debate and the way the States spend our money, I feel that our sports team and the staff have side-stepped the spotlight and subsequent criticism. Yes, there is plenty of media coverage but I do think someone would have sent a letter to the Guernsey Press about our team's current predicament. In football at the moment there are managers in the upper echelons of this sport losing their jobs after 10 games, yet our team is in a dire situation and nothing is being done. Yes, Guernsey FC and the coaching staff have done a brilliant job, but that was two years ago. Equally, I feel that the present coaching team have done all they can to progress and develop our team and I think a change is needed so that our local football team can once again flourish under new leadership.
So my question to the directors of Guernsey FC is why has nothing been done about this rapid decrease of results? Why is Tony Vance, who is also the commercial manager of the club, still acting as manager while higher profile managers who have accomplished a lot more in the game, are losing their jobs within a couple of months? I am a strong believer that managers should have a good crack of the whip, but when is enough enough? I mean, Guernsey FC have not won away from home in nearly a year. Do I really need to continue? Yet Tony and his team are still in a job. It is utter madness.
I sincerely hope that I am proved wrong and that Guernsey FC go on a good run of results and climb up the league table. However, if Guernsey FC's form continues like it is then I hope that the people responsible make the right decision on Tony Vance and his staff, which I have clearly articulated in this letter.
