‘Leave alone meddling four’
I FEEL I must write and comment on the Education debacle which is currently taking place. For better or worse we have a committee for Education albeit linked with Sports and Culture, but as far as I can see at least the person in charge of the Education committee has a wealth of years of experience behind him actually in education. Everyone believes they are an expert in education simply because they went to school.
Paul Le Pelley was not in favour of removing the 11-plus but since it went through has dedicated himself with his committee to coming up with a three-school model for the future as directed by the chief minister.
Their findings had barely even been printed or discussed when four other deputies took it upon themselves to come up with an alternative. Were they asked to do this? What business do they have doing this if they are not on the Education committee?
I feel absolutely incensed that these four ‘outsiders’ have come up with alternative plans when the plans of the actual committee have not even been discussed.
I would also like to know what is happening on the other committees that these four stand on while they meddle with something else. Also, if they do have a genuine interest in education, then why not stand for the committee as a place became vacant recently? As far as I understand there were no candidates stepping forward for the position.
I have been involved in education for 40 years on this island and have probably got more idea about what goes on in various schools than these four deputies put together.
I only hope the States of Guernsey sees sense and discusses the plan which has been formulated by the Education committee and not the one that just seeks to come up with an alternative.
