Assisted dying lobbying is taking it ‘a step too far’
RE THE assisted dying debate.
Sarah Griffith has done marvellous things for the poor and displaced people around the world and we, no doubt, admire her greatly for her efforts.
However, she is not Our Saviour and taking up this cause to enable terminally ill people to choose when to die is a step too far and morally wrong.
She claims to have had very little objection to her cause, but I believe that I voice the opinions of many too afraid to speak out.
Many are afraid to speak their minds because it is deemed to be old fashioned in values.
Even the politicians have had to bow to what is perceived to be politically correct, but this in the face of decent family values.
I trust that when this debate comes before the States many islanders will speak out and show Ms Griffith that she has not got the majority.
Name and address withheld.
Editor’s footnote: Sarah Griffith replies:
Thank you for the opportunity to reply to this reader.
Doug Wilson and I think it is morally wrong to leave someone suffering and that keeping someone alive against their wishes is disrespectful and unkind. If these are the ‘old-fashioned’ values lamented by the author of the letter, then change can’t come soon enough. We know there are people who do not agree – that is their absolute right, however, we truly believe that the public should be afforded the option to have the choice for themselves.
