‘Disgusting’… Bonfires in built-up areas are a health hazard
I WISH to complain about the farm opposite. Most evenings the farm has a fire and the last two evenings, in this heatwave, I have had to close my windows.
And even though my windows are closed the disgusting fumes pervade my home and cause me to wake during the night with a sore throat and coughing. It is causing ill health to myself and I am sure to other residents in this vicinity and they should be stopped from having these fires. Indeed this evening the fire was started at approximately 7.20 and I can still smell it four hours later as it continuously smoulders. And it was the same the previous evening. My windows still firmly shut.
I find it ironic that this farm can endanger mine and my neighbours’ well-being and cause me ill health but the States of Guernsey bans people smoking. These fires will also cause people ill health, breathing problems, including lung cancer, so why is the disgusting behaviour of having fires within a residential area giving off noxious fumes allowed to continue?
