Greedy people don’t care for us
THE only vote that is taken notice of at any time in this island is the one to decide who gets into power. When a vote of no confidence is put forward no one takes a bit of notice, they just carry on doing what they want. If a vote is put out to the public and it does not return in favour of the government they just ignore it.
I have seen it many times in my life going back as far as when most of the island’s people did not want Fort George sold off, to the recent traffic speed limits.
I will say once again that this island is not run by a democratic government but a dictatorship.
There are far too many millionaires and, dare I say, Masons, in power to ever understand the real struggles in life or listen to the people they feel are below them. The attitude – you will do as we say – comes across very clearly.
You may be able to fool some people by holding debates on proposals, but the majority know the decisions are made well in advance and you are just wasting time and money talking a load of rubbish hour after hour trying to prove to people you are open and transparent.
What is very noticeable is the fact the majority of the time we follow what other islands do.
We do not have the courage to lead, but we are good at watching to see if things work elsewhere. What does or does not work in the Isle of Man, the Isle of Wight, Jersey or Timbuktu is of no concern to Guernsey.
We have totally lost our identity and everything is too expensive – not only for families to come on holiday, but for the hard-working manual labourers and pensioners to live. No runway stretching the whole length of the island is going to improve any of that.
All the greedy people of Guernsey including (and I would say especially) our millionaires in government need to look around them. Cars, clothes, drinks, food and just about anything you wish to mention is dearer – even to the point of being over double [the price] in this island.
Do you really want to help the people? I have my doubts – and I am sure I am not alone.
How on earth can anyone sitting on millions have the slightest idea about life living from hand to mouth? The trouble in the main being you make no attempt to hide the fact you don’t really care either – as long as your bread is buttered on both sides and around the edges.
Most of you deputies are only interested in cutting this island down to a couple of schools (that we will surely pay for in the future when someone with common sense comes into power but it will cost us a fortune to build another three or four), or taking the island back to the days when someone has to walk in front of a vehicle with a flag.
Our island anthem for the rich should be changed from Sarnia Cherie to Gary Glitter’s ‘Do you wanna be in my gang?’
