Shaming article ill thought out

I AM writing to complain about Horace Camp’s article Shame on you. I’m sitting in my car wondering whether I should step down from my voluntary position as secretary of a local environmental charity. I imagine many other people who give up their time freely to try and improve our island environment are thinking the same thing. You see I’m not perfect. I never claimed to be. I drive an electric car in part powered by solar generated by our panels and part via Guernsey Electricity. There are problems with electric cars, but it is pretty short-sighted to try and shame people for driving them given the recent poor air quality measurements in Guernsey. However, Mr Camp is entitled to his view.

More seriously, it is totally irresponsible of the Guernsey Press to encourage people to ‘target’ local individuals by either posting or handing them items in an attempt to shame them for giving up their time to help improve the Guernsey environment. Mr Camp proposes a modern equivalent of a white feather (a sign of cowardice in the war). Apart from this being incredibly insulting, I think it would be quite upsetting and possibly even frightening to be targeted in this way. Your writer even suggests using beach pebbles to shame their eco warrior targets.

All in all, a really poorly thought out article.
