Where is the parking at PEH?

THERE was a letter in the Guernsey Press the other day saying how much better the parking was at the PEH.

Well, I would like to know what time of day this lucky person was able to park without trouble.

I am one of many who go to a treatment at the PEH that starts at 7.30am three times a week. We like to park outside the Vauquiedor entrance so that when we have finished our treatment it’s not far to walk to our cars. According to the signs it says visitors, patients and clinic users only. Well, how come at 7.15am most times all the spaces, even the disabled ones, are taken?

Now I’m 99% sure that no clinics have started that early, so I think that the States lady who is in charge of hospital parking – Heidi? – needs to get up early out of bed and sort this problem out.

I am sorry to hear that your reader has experienced problems in finding a parking space at the hospital. We recognise that parking is an issue for many hospital users and work is currently under way to create an additional 81 parking spaces on the Princess Elizabeth Hospital site. We anticipate that this work will be completed by the end of next month.

With regard to your reader’s comment about spaces being full at 7.15am, the hospital provides round-the-clock health care services to a variety of users and, for this reason, parking can be limited even outside ‘office’ hours. Although there are spaces available at that time of day, we recognise that some of our service users do struggle to find parking close to the hospital, even early in the morning, and we are taking steps to address this.

We hope that by creating these extra spaces we will be able to reduce the current parking pressure for both staff and service users. We are also looking at ways of encouraging more staff and service users to consider alternative ways of travelling to the hospital, such as public transport, to alleviate pressure on parking.

In addition, we have recently stepped up our efforts to ensure service users and staff park in the correctly allocated spaces by appointing additional porters who, as part of their job responsibilities, will monitor parking on the site.
