Tautenay Ward shows the island really cares

MY PARENT has spent the last few months on Tautenay Ward, Oberlands, as my parent needed care. I cannot praise the manager, the doctors, the team and all staff there enough, for their excellent approach and genuine care that my parent has received every minute, every hour, day and night. Nothing has been too much trouble, while supporting my parent, there have been good and not so good days. Family have been made so welcome at the facility, we know the staff by name and we always had smiles no matter what sort of day it was. My parent has received excellent medical care, people who listen, people who go the extra mile.

I personally had not been on the ward until this happened to my parent and I am so taken by the facility. If ever you know someone or even if it is you that needs the care, don’t be afraid as you will only receive the best care with the best standards in place.

My parent is now moving on to a new care home and the warm welcome received there was exceptional and I know it is another fabulous place already, with a manager and staff with values similar to Tautenay.

It has been a long journey for my parent and the family but now we can see a future and hope.

I didn’t know much about Tautenay or the island’s care homes and yes, it is a wait, however in saying that I realise the wait is down to the good care received, so waiting is not a bad thing; yes, frustrating at times, but the island really cares. We are so lucky to have our care standards, whether these facilities or the hospital services.

My parent actually said to my daughter on the way to the new care facility, ‘I’ll miss the people I met, but time for a new home. It’s a new chapter and life is full of opportunities.’ This is someone in their late eighties and recognises life with help is positive and there is always a future.

Thank you all for what you do, I say this on behalf of my parent and family, it is from the heart.
