‘Income Tax penalises the elderly again’

ISN’T it time the States of Guernsey helped us elderly folk over the age of 90?

We’ve been evacuated, short of food due to food rationing during the war. Scrimped, scraped, getting our clothes second-hand and the family’s. Saved as much as possible. Collected bottles years ago, so we could go to the pictures (I can’t remember how much we got per bottle). And I always used to say we could make a meal out of practically nothing, provided we had potatoes and vegetables. And now because we have to use our savings to help the small pension, to pay rent, food and general living expenses, the Income Tax penalise us again.

Surely at our age we can be left in peace and not worry about how much longer we will live. Don’t tell me to go on social security, because I don’t agree with it.

PS I am writing for all those over 90 years. I am alright myself, if very careful.
