Rise in assaults on police ‘alarming’
VERY reassuring to hear our head of law enforcement stating that assaults on the police are increasing but we should not worry – Guernsey is still a safe place to live (unless of course you’re a policeman).
I believe our politicians are quite naive – a prominent figure in the police force makes this quite alarming statement and our States deputies feel there is no need for more-severe sentences.
I wonder if when applications are handed in to the Police Federation our budding police constables are informed that the way things are going they risk life-changing injuries, or worse, in the execution of their duty.
I feel sure the majority of people in Guernsey are well aware that when an officer of the law is assaulted, the offenders more often than not play the ‘I was intoxicated’ card, and behold, it usually works.
In ending my letter I just want to say, whilst our brave policemen are protecting us, the public, who is protecting them?
