Spend rainy day fund – and get everyone tested

I READ in the Press (dated 22 April) our main man now wants to borrow £500m.

Well, before they start putting us up to our necks in it again, why don’t they use what they have in the rainy day fund and get everyone tested? That way, we would all know where we stand ref. having the coronavirus. Surely that way, things could get us back to some sort of normal living, and our economy would then start to grow again.

We don’t need to put ourselves and grandchildren in a mess if we don’t need to; there’s plenty of money there, they just need to spend it on things we really need and not on stupid things like pulling the wall down at L’Ancresse or mucking around with our schools. I know we need to build maybe another one, but if they are going to build one, let’s build it like the ones that are still standing that have been there since I went to school, instead of something that only lasts about 20 years.

I’m sorry, but I’ve got to go on now that I’ve started. I can’t put everything down, there’s not enough paper in the Press to take it. Just a few things that need sorting, like giving back to our elders, the people that made this little island what it is. We need to look after them better, give them more money to be able to live better lives. Then there’s the roads, sewage, parking, what we pay out to all those one-parent families, the out-of-work.

We need to stop mucking around, reclaim Belgrave. I know an old mate of mine won’t like what I’m saying, who lives at the Halfway; build a wall/road from St Sampson’s to St Peter Port which will help with future high tides, stop all these stupid dump prices and build a plant that turns our rubbish into concrete honeycomb building blocks that will be used to help fill it in, then you could have your arm/jetty for your cruise liners, hotels, sewage plant, parks, playgrounds, etc., plus the wall/road can help with stopping the new high tides that we are told are coming our way with climate change.

Staying on climate, we also need to clear all these disused, ugly greenhouse sites, turn them into green useable woods, gardens – something that would help the environment.

I could go on, but I’m one of the lucky ones that can go to work. Let’s hope someone in our States reads my first little letter.

Stay safe all.
