Complacency has no place in newspaper

ON LIBERATION DAY, to read such an article! [German occupiers’ rules were strict but fair, 8 May] Certainly, the one who wrote that article did not live during the Occupation – or is German. Strict but ‘fair’? Ask an Alderney prisoner if they were treated ‘fairly’. Complacency helps to justify the Occupation, bad treatments... even if some Germans were, as individuals, human, when you are subject to occupation, you must show, like in the French book from Vercors, The Silence Of The Sea (Le Silence De La Mer), not any approval of sympathy. During a war your enemy stays your enemy.

After 50 years since there is Europe, reconciliation, we could stop this commemoration, because Germany is in the same confederation. But it still goes on.

Never forget, do not soften what our parents, grandparents suffered. Please do not put such a publication in your newspaper.
