Deputies must make time to answer our questions

MARK LEIGHTLEY is so correct with his comment ‘How can protection be so selective?’ It was a very pertinent question and one that should have been answered.

He was commenting on a picture printed in the Guernsey Press on 25 June on behalf of the Guernsey Disability Alliance and noticed that two members then went on to vote for the abortion of disabled babies. The two sides do not mix.

To stand on two opposing committees shows how hypocritical States members can be.

To refuse to comment smacks of ‘I am not answerable, the decisions are made’.

They are very well paid representatives of the people and should answer any questions that are asked by the public if for no other reason than an open government.

They will be quick enough to answer questions when they wish to stand again in October.

Care should be given to each and every child who is disabled.

It would be interesting to know how qualified these people are to come to these decisions. I guess not one of these deputies will witness such a horrifying procedure, which they so easily passed, of a late term abortion which is so close to being a full term baby.

Head in the sand comes to mind.

I look forward to October when I can vote once more having followed how deputies voted on this very sad subject. A very dark day for Guernsey indeed.
