We have so much to be thankful for here in Guernsey

I AM writing on behalf of so many people whose family members are or have been in care homes for one reason or another this year. We have so much to be thankful for, especially at this time of the year.

Apart from a few weeks in the spring we have been able to lead near-normal lives and visit our ailing family members, unlike so many poor families in the UK.

We all want to thank Dr Brink and her team, our doctors, nurses and care workers for controlling the spread of Covid-19. Our politicians have also helped by being proactive in setting out strict rules, sometimes to the annoyance of a few individuals, which have certainly helped to contain the spread.

The other group we want to thank is the people of Guernsey and those people who are returning to Guernsey for work or holidays for abiding with the isolation rules. This has certainly so far prevented another outbreak in the community. A special thanks to the younger members of society for enduring strict isolation rules for two weeks.

I am an older person and have recently lost my wife to Alzheimer’s and have had to get used to living on my own. I am reasonably content, but for younger people it must be purgatory not to be able to meet up with friends and party until sunrise.

Full praise to you. Happy Xmas and a better new year to all.
