Knock-on effect of development has reduced Mill Street’s footfall
HAD the original Market/Mill Street area rejuvenation plans submitted by the Market developer and agreed by the States of Guernsey been completed this would still be the same picture but with different retail outlets and would have been the main heart of the St Peter Port shopping area. What a total internal mess they have made of a beautiful landmark building, it has been totally destroyed in their hands. Instead, the knock-on effect has also been to reduce the footfall into the Mill Street area and destroyed the viability of Gabriel’s shops. This would have been the most thriving part of Town, the shopping heart destroyed. This is one of the big mistakes the States of Guernsey made, followed by the selling off of our telecoms. I have to say a big thanks for not selling off our electricity, water, dairy, hospital, post office, harbour, airport, Aurigny and the oil tankers. This would be a big mistake.
