Light at end of the tunnel

SO HERE we are again, another lockdown. Children are at home and unable to go to school, playschool or play with their friends and feeling very bored most probably. Mum and Dad are struggling to work from home, besides home schooling their children.

Driving around the island, that was when we were allowed, too, I noticed that there are still lots of beautiful rainbows hanging in the windows, which the children had coloured and painted during the last lockdown. But because of the really hot summer we had, the colours are starting to fade. Maybe the children could paint the colours vibrant again. Also painting or colouring some big bright yellow sunflowers. Yellow is such a happy, feel good colour, with little ladybirds nestling on their petals. Children are always fascinated by ladybirds. A big bright yellow sun above with loads of sunbeams shining down and blue birds flying above and over the rainbow. Above the picture big words saying ‘OUR FUTURE IS NOT CANCELLED’. It’s just an idea of mine and the children would be kept so busy, and the words are so poignant at the moment.

The picture will show that there is a light at the end of this dark dismal tunnel. That spring and summer are just around the corner, waiting in the wings and more importantly that ‘Our and their future is definitely not cancelled’. I’m sure this would bring a smile to our faces, which is something we could all do with right now.

The people of Guernsey are still in shock of how everything changed overnight and the speed the virus is moving. Everyone seems to know someone who is affected or isolating, but we know we have to follow the rules. It is the right thing to do. We trust Dr Brink, her team and all the nurses who are doing their utmost to get us back to where we were. This now feels a lifetime ago.

We must take care of our own well-being as well. Get vaccinated, go for walks and exercise and eat well but most of all we must all ‘keep strong’, we can get through this.
