I am ashamed of the archaic drug laws in our island
MY FAMILY and everyone I’ve discussed Pip Orchard’s situation [Monday 24 May] with are shocked and sickened at the lack of compassion and the illogicality of putting someone like him in prison. Surely this young man deserves our help, having helped others at the cost of his own mental health? I’m ashamed of the archaic and ridiculous drug laws in our island. They bring to my mind the people of the past who would go to Bedlam to laugh at the ‘mad’ people there. We need to modernise and rationalise our drug laws and stop criminalising those who need our help – now, not in some far-off future.
