States need to help our working class

THE States thinks people should put more into the pot because if not funds will run out within 20 years. What an absolute disgrace. You are elected by the people to look after the people and with many name changes over many years in the House, with a number of the same people actually still being involved, you have not done a very good job. Why the insistence in punishing the people who need the help is always at the forefront of the people we elected to look after us is beyond me.

Pensioners have been mistreated by the government for years and the way they are made to struggle to make ends meet each year as the rich cream it off in this island is disgusting. The answer to our problems is very simple. Why not charge everyone on all their income? Millionaires who are getting millions in interest on this island should pay in full and not have their tax bill capped. Perhaps even the deputies should be looking at taking a drop in the money they get for making people’s lives more difficult. You have hurt the working class enough now and we are getting fed up. Can no one in power see, or do you not want to see, that paying a pension to a person for one year and then saying get on with it after their spouse has passed away and they have paid a full stamp for a lifetime is disgraceful and very much a way to get support from the people you asked to vote you into your well paid position out of the money they have put into the pot.

Whoever proposed this and all those who supported it needs their bumps read.

Perhaps giving our money away to overseas aid when we are struggling so badly should be looked into and certainly a stop should be put to hiring all those experts to tell us what a local person already knows. I suggest the government gets a grip and looks beyond punishing the working classes on this island for a change. I saw a poor old pensioner who thought she might have a couple of pieces of ham for a change as a treat – then having to ask the lady serving her to put one piece back because she could not afford it. I doubt very much any of our beloved deputies will ever get in that position, but is it time you thought about those who are.

Come on guys, you were all shouting from the rooftops on how you were going to make a difference – well now is the time to prove you were being honest or are you going to sit back and fall into line like your predecessors.
