Spend money on Nice-approved drugs before vanity projects
UNITED we stand, divided we fall. Guernsey Together for the good of us all – well, not quite all of us it seems.
It is an absolute tragedy that those thousands of people promised access to Nice-approved drugs and treatments by Deputy Heidi Soulsby, and endorsed by the States, are now to have their hopes dashed. The global pandemic is blamed for the impact on States finances. However, the States continues to squander money on unnecessary things.
For example: Guernsey Finance, the promotional agency for the finance industry, will now be given millions of pounds. Why? When our finance industry is perfectly capable of promoting itself and has outlets all over the world so to do.
The vanity project, from Vive La Vallette, for the redevelopment for the changing rooms and kiosk at the bathing pools is another example. £300,000 given over to this group by the States and yet they still need a further £300,000. They were not to have started work until they had raised £1.5 million required for this project, but they have. So many plans for the seafront ‘enhancement’, harbour development and the Spur Point development being produced, so much money being wasted, in doing so without consulting with those with ‘local’ knowledge. All this money could have given 3000 islanders access to Nice-approved drugs and treatments they desperately need. Shame on you States, get your priority right. Health first.
