Deputy who was suspended did not break a law

I AM writing in to express an opinion.

I don’t think that you will publish this letter as it speaks in favour of Deputy Le Tissier and you seem to have set against him so.

Deputy Le Tissier has been very foolish and will likely have to be the butt of jokes and snide comments as long as he is a public person. He has also had to face much trial by media, partly at your own hands but mostly by social media.

I have seen lots of comments on Guernsey Press Have Your Say against him.

The joke is that these are all from anonymous accounts, [a point] which seems to be lost on them.

However, there are many commenters who look favourably on the pro-local stance of the deputy.

In fact, his views are what you will hear in a lot of places around the island, especially where locals feel they are being marginalised by new islanders who don’t rightly appreciate or understand what makes Guernsey special.

Far from being a ‘spent force’, as I read in the Press, I would say that amongst the silent majority of locals his pro-local stance may lead to more people voting for him should he stand again.

Recently the HYS comments have been very much in his favour.

I did not vote for him last year but now I would.

I think expulsion or exclusion is a stupidly strong punishment for someone expressing views that are fairly widely held.

He did not break a law and if ‘you are not local’ is offensive, then people need to toughen up a bit.
