States can fix bed shortage

WE are continually hearing about cancellations in hospital for many operations and the waiting times are becoming worse.

One of the main reasons is the lack of beds available due to patients being looked after as there is no room available in the various homes on the island.

All the care homes are at full stretch and the future looks very bleak and I am sure our health authorities are very aware of the situation.

Which brings me to the point of what is happening to the King Edward Hospital as we all believe it is empty and just collecting dust and maintenance.

This building has to be the perfect place to convert into a care home for the future. We understand of course most of the homes in the island are private and one issue would be staffing.

There is going to be strain on care homes as our population is ageing more and more.

We have the problem of course of knowing shortages and looking for areas to build or convert, but also finding buildings to reuse as care homes is now and has to be the top of the list.

Would the health authorities like to comment on this situation about the future of care homes and their

views of converting the King

Edward to a care home as soon as possible?
