Island needs to install wind farm – not another electricity cable
I believe that negotiations on Electrical Generation/Fishing with France and the UK are being progressed by Deputy Jonathan le Tocq and I am sure he is doing a great job on behalf of Guernsey.
Further threats by France on cutting off Electricity to Jersey and Guernsey will continue for many years ahead as it is a powerful negotiating tool.
One threat, which has occurred, is enough for action by Guernsey.
The current Electricity Board of Directors, politically led by Deputy Peter Roffey, are considering ‘installing another electricity cable’ to France which will give France yet more leverage over Guernsey.
This approach is sort of like hand-feeding red meat to an angry lion.
It is time for one new Deputy to only to be responsible for the electricity – a strong person with a business background – may I dare to suggest Mr Charles Parkinson be given this responsibility but not as part of the States Trading Board.
It is time for a new Board of Directors for the Guernsey Authority.
It is time for a massive wind farm off the many coasts of Guernsey that supplies a lot more power than Guernsey uses even at low wind levels.
It is time that a plan is put in place to sell electricity to Jersey and France over existing cables – what a good idea.
All the technology of a wind farm is well-proven with continuous advances in the amount of electric power obtained from a single wind turbine. Very large wind farms are being installed on the sea bed around the UK and those companies would design, install, maintain, and manage the Guernsey solution.
They would fund the installation and Guernsey would buy the electricity off them for ever – as opposed to buying off France.
We need new tactical action and have our own large wind farm within three years; before we are threatened by France once again.
It is of no use installing a new cable to the UK as we would once again be losing our independence.
Young people in Guernsey – this proposal is for your future – do you not care?
