Thanks to everyone for their generosity on Bright Tights Day
ON BEHALF of the Bright Tights charity we would like to thank all members of the Guernsey community who generously paid for the privilege of wearing Bright Tights on Friday 5 November. This year even more companies, schools and individuals organised events which not only raised money but also raised awareness of gynaecological cancers.
A special thank you to world record-holder, Simon Johns, who donated half of the money he raised by continuously rowing 302,515km in 24 hours on a rowing machine, to Bright Tights. Simon’s grit, determination and generosity is mind-blowing and we applaud him.
Awareness of gynaecological cancers is shockingly low; many women do not even know there are five areas of their bodies (womb, ovaries, cervix, vulva and vagina) that can be affected by gynaecological cancers and many of the women we speak to have no understanding of gynaecological cancer before their own first diagnosis.
As a direct result of this year’s fundraising local women diagnosed with gynaecological cancer and their families will be directly supported by the charity. Our vision is to ensure that no one has to face gynaecological cancer unsupported and alone. We are also pleased to be able to assist with targeted funding of UK-based research into gynaecological cancers, the results of which benefit both local women and the wider community.
More information about Bright Tights can be obtained from the website brighttights.org.gg
Anyone needing support can email brighttightsgsy@gmail.com or ring 07781 434550.
Again, many thanks to everyone for their generosity and please note that Bright Tights Day next year will be Friday 4 November.
