Farewell Daily Telegraph, from a loyal reader
An Open Letter to the Daily Telegraph:

AS ONE OF many previously loyal Daily Telegraph readers in the Channel Islands, may I express my dismay at your decision to cease distribution of a hard copy newspaper to us from 28 May 2022.
I have been loyal to your newspaper for many decades, some days only doing the crossword, especially on Saturdays. I cannot envisage doing so via a digital version, no matter that you may say I could print it off at home.
I intend writing to the editors of The Guernsey Press and The Jersey Post to inform them how betrayed we all feel by your penny pinching decision. I am aware of many friends and colleagues in all five islands who feel the same way.
Guernsey, Jersey, Alderney, Sark and Herm, population in excess of 170,000 people.
As national newspapers are printed in Jersey and arrive here in Guernsey by a small boat at roughly 6am most mornings I cannot understand how you can claim distribution costs being the reason for your decision. To my knowledge the remaining national papers intend supplying the Channel Islands in the traditional manner, so all you will achieve is a migration of readership to The Times.
I am enclosing the four weeks’ vouchers, that are post your last hard copy date, for a refund, as explained to the poor lady charged with trying to justify your decision.
With an aching heart I bid you a sad farewell.
PETER WALTERS
