Ukrainian people are in need of our prayers

LOUIS ARMSTRONG lived through two world wars and became the definition of optimism in singing a beautiful song called ‘What A Wonderful World’.

The lyrics described ‘trees of green, skies of blue, for me and for you.’ Sadly, in the Ukraine: I see friends, covered in blood, red, white and blue. I hear babies cry, I watch them die, they’ll never grow, or see skies of blue, what hope for me and for you? And I think to myself, what happened to, such a wonderful world?

Elvis Presley was born into poverty, known as ‘white trash’. In 1968 Elvis performed If I Can Dream, a song that expressed his hopes and aspirations:

‘There must be lights burning brighter somewhere, got to be birds flying higher in a sky more blue, If I can dream of a better land, Where all my brothers walk hand in hand, Tell me why, can’t my dream come true?

‘There must be peace and understanding sometime, strong winds of promise that will blow away the doubt and fear, if I can dream of a warmer sun, where hope keeps shining on everyone, tell me why, won’t that sun appear?

‘We’re lost in a cloud with too much rain, We’re trapped in a world that’s troubled with pain, But as long as a man has the strength to dream, he can redeem his soul and fly.

‘Deep in my heart, there’s a trembling question, still I am sure that the answer’s gonna come somehow, out there in the dark, there’s a beckoning candle, and while I can think, while I can talk, while I can stand, while I can walk, while I can dream, please let my dream come true, right now.’

May Ukrainian hopes and dreams come true right now. ‘Trees of green, skies of blue, happiness for me and for you. And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.’

God has given us a lifeline, the gift of prayer. If you seek not God, how do you expect to find? If you pray not, how can you expect to receive?

All the people of Ukraine, all the nations caught up in this war, all who have lost loved ones, all are in desperate need of our prayers. God loves to answer prayer. God has commanded that we are to love one another, to love our enemies. Praying for one another is to love. To love is a hard thing. Not to love will result in conflict, not peace. This world will never be at peace; there will always be wars, with the likes of Hitler, Mussolini and Putin.

Terrible as war is, as is the pandemic, all are but a foretaste of that which awaits us in death. Heaven and Hell are not myths, but divides between those who do and those who do not believe in God. If you believe in universal salvation, think again. You’ve been misled, for the wages of sin is death.

Why should God save any; for none, no not one is deserving of salvation. This war could escalate into an extinction level event. If we all believed in God, there would be no wars.
