Fontaine development will only exacerbate traffic woes in north
HERE we go again. Plans for 91 new builds at the Fontaine Vinery, along with 68 at Pointues Rocques and heaven only knows how many at the Kenilworth Vinery site. If someone could maybe build some skyscrapers on Delancey Park then we can be completely surrounded.
I read that there are plans to reduce the amount of cars but I don’t see this being an overwhelming success, so it begs the question, ‘where do all these extra cars go?’ I walked down St Clair Hill the other morning at 8.45 and the traffic was all the way back to Crossways. Even if only 50% of people in these planned new places have cars that would be approximately 150-plus extra vehicles.
While speaking of St Clair Hill, I notice that there is going to be a nice new covering on it, well until it’s dug up again in a couple of weeks [Editor’s note: Traffic & Highway Services has pushed back the resurfacing until September]. It would be nice to think that maybe one day the whole road from the Halfway to Vale Church could be redone as at the moment driving at either end is similar to being inside a washing machine. We live in hope.
Finally, while all in good faith I’m sure, the surveys done on the walkability issue might not show a true reflection of islanders’ feelings as 36 people (approx. 0.05% of the population) answered the first survey and 86 (a markedly better 0.15%) the second. Try walking down the aforementioned St Clair Hill without getting a face full of grit (or worse) from a passing lorry, good luck with that.Cheers.
