Greed in Guernsey is a disgrace

THANK YOU to the estate agent whose GP news story on housing [Morally wrong for investors to own multiple family homes, Thursday 11 August] was so honest.

We all know what’s going on but to see it clarified in black and white is truly sickening. The greed manifesting itself in Guernsey is palpable. A slur on our island home. It makes a travesty of the huge sign of the Christian faith at Les Cotils. Erected I’m sure by good people, with the best of intentions, but now, sadly, a very hollow icon to many, and no comfort at all to those Guernsey youngsters who have the stark choices to make between paying through the nose for a local ‘home’ (a cross between a sardine can and a rabbit hutch), throw hard earned salaries down the drain by renting from ‘grabbers’ with insatiable greed, or to leave their island home, a tragic sacrifice for them, and their families they’ll leave behind.

Our ‘little gem’, Guernsey, is being used and abused by unchallenged profiteers. It’s a disgrace.
